Financial Habits
40% of your daily actions are habits, not decisions!
This according to a Duke University research paper.
In order to change your financial trajectory you need to first make decisions that put you on the path to financial independence. Then the habits will instinctively take over. How do most people achieve financial freedom? "First, gradually... then, suddenly..."
How to get started:
1) Pay yourself first - create the habit of automatically transferring money on payday from your checking account to your high-yield savings account. Just by separating this money into another account will create a mental barrier that it is off limits for spending.
2) Mindful Spending - ask if the item in your cart is a want or a need. Go back and do a spending audit on the things you have recently purchased, and see if you can locate them today.
3) Get curious - begin changing your habits with the decision to become financially curious. Seek resources that are based in facts and research to help answer your questions (you will have to go off social media for this one).
Once the decision has been made to create a better financial life for yourself and your family, the habits will closely follow. The hardest part is just getting started. It takes time and commitment to change. But nothing worth doing is ever easy.
